I don't know how I am doing it...but I am surviving hardly ANY sleep. My little man just wants to wake up every two hours to eat. If only he would want to sleep longer at night.
He will, my dear...right around six weeks...well, seven weeks for him, since he was a week early. He's not far from it! And remember the options we discussed the other night! Let Jess help during the night! And drink coffee:) YES, it is SAFE to drink!! Just not in huge amounts! My kids always slept for longer periods during nap time when I let them sleep with me in the crook of my arm. Just another thought...hang in there, girl! It won't last forever! Now Jadon doesn't WANT to wake up!!
oh Maria, i feel your pain. I echo kayla in saying it will come. If he will sleep better at night in your bed with you by all means do it. Don't listen to everyone else, i did it with both of mine. Also, maybe your milk isn't thick enough yet, as you go along it may thicken and fill him for longer. It's so hard sweetie, i know your pain all to well. May God keep you going and DRINK COFFEE!!!!!!!!!!!! I did it and told my dr. She told me it was fine and that's just a myth. I love you girl.
so do you think i should let him sleep longer during daytime nap or wake him up more? which way will help him learn to sleep longer at night. Jess does help out too. :) he is very good about that. most nights he will give him a bottle so i can get three to three 1/2 hours sleep. i don't get much more than that though when he helps out...i wake up when i hear tyler cry. also, when i sleep longer at night does that affect my milk supply? what happens to your milk when you start sleeping six to eight hours a night? just wondering. oh yeah, and the pacifier thing...it doesn't work with tyler..if i give it to him he can't hold it in his mouth for very long and he cries when it falls out....oh well. :)
Ha ha...oh, Maria...:) Tyler will get over the pacifier not staying in his mouth...it took Amberly a few weeks, then she figigured out that once it was gone it was gone, and Mom will give it back in the morning:) And as for your milk: your body will regulate itself in a few weeks. If you skip an occasional feeding during the day/night, it won't harm your milk...and if Tyler starts sleeping through the night for 6-8 hours, then your body will make less milk during those hours that your body has learned that Tyler doesn't need it. When he starts needing more, he will want to nurse more frequently, which will build your milk supply up even more. Tyler will tell your body what to do. An occasional "skip" won't harm your milk (but your boobs might get unpleasantly full if you suddenly go all night long w/o nursing). You can just get up and pump just enough to take some of the pressure off, bottle it up to save for a later feeding, and get back to bed.
As for sleeping...let him sleep however long he wants to sleep right now. He's too young to be able to get him on a schedule. And the truth is: if you try to keep him up longer during the day, it makes nighttime even harder, because it has the opposite effect on him: it makes him so overtired that he CAN'T sleep, and won't sleep well. Around his seven week mark, you'll start to notice that he will probably take 3 decent naps during the day...early morning, mid-afternoon, and an early evening nap. Some babies catnap all day long, too. And that's okay. You really should get that book I told you about by Dr. Weissbluth..."Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child"...it's the best/most helpful book on the market. PLEASE READ IT! It will save your life and quite possibly Tyler's, if you get too crazy-tired)!! Give me a call if you have questions...you know where to find me, and you know I am always here for you:)
What Kayla said.... i totally agree and we are mothers of two making this four kids that have survived :) You are doing great Maria. Really don't wake Tyler up, when he's hungry he'll wake up. You'll notice he is less finicky if you do that.
