Every time I let Ty watch tv (cartoons) I always feel a little bad about it...like I should be playing with him instead. I do admit..it's nice to get the small break when he actually does watch something. We are not a big tv watching family, in fact, I hardly know what's on these days. When we do watch tv in the evenings, and Ty is awake, it makes me feel even worse that he is in the room with the tv. Am I just being weird? I know it's okay to let your kids watch tv...but how much is too much? How do you guys handle watching tv in your houses?

Jadon watches a lot in the morning, Amberly doesn't watch ANY (their choices), but the only stuff they are ALLOWED to watch is educational shows/movies. If they aren't on, neither is the TV. I watch a lot at night, after the kids are in bed, because this stupid morning sickness really hits me by about supper time, so once the kids are down, I'm in bed, too, watching whatever the heck I can find on our 5 channels.
Mya only watches age appropriate shows -cartoons, educational stuff, nature/animal shows (although those ones are regulated pretty closely)
I try to limit the amount of time spent in front of the t.v - but then there are those days.....I was much more on top of it when she was a baby , but as she's gotten older I've allowed more.
Luckily she loves crafts, playing (in and outdoors), cooking, helping me with chores, and going out on play dates, etc. So she never has actually begged to watch any.
I only let ty watch sesame street. I do put the news on in the evenings sometimes...and he plays in the same room, but it's really the only time i can watch the news. sometimes we watch arthur in the afternoon..but i really don't know much about cartoons or any kid tv..so we basically just watch sesame street.
We do our best to keep Hana from watching TV. I know there is controversy over whether or not it acutally causes damage (WHO and AAP don't reccomend any screen time under 2 years), but we figure not watching doesn't hurt her, and will encourage good viewing habits if she doesn't get sucked in too early. It's also had the added benefit of cutting down on TV time for Ben and I - it's rarely on, only if there's something specific we want to watch.
There are times we do have the TV on when she's in there playing (like to watch the news), but if she's paying too much attention (just staring instead of playing) then we turn it off. If she's not watching it's not a problem.
