the other day i went to target. as i was being rung up, i noticed that my bill was less than i thought it was going to be. so when i got in the car, and we started to drive away, i looked at my receipt. the lady had not rung up one of my items. we didn't go back. so that brings me to my question. would you go back and tell the lady her mistake? i didn't really feel the need to, i felt she had made the mistake, and we were in a hurry to get somewhere. if i had noticed it in the store, then i would have said something. but being in the car and away from the store i didn't bother. what would you do? so that got jess and i talking and i asked him if he found some money on the floor in a store and no one was around it, so you had no idea who's it was, would you keep it? ten, twenty, or even one hundred dollars. doesn't matter how much. would you keep it our turn it in? i said i would keep it if i didnt know who it belonged to...jess said he would turn it in. what would you do in that situation?

I'm somewhat anal in this department...as in...I volunteer way TOO much information (For example- Police Officer: Excuse me ma'am, do you know why I pulled you over? Me: Well officer, was it because I was speeding, because I also ran a stop sign earlier by mistake and a red light, and I don't know how long you've been following me...)I would have gotten out of my car and payed for the xtra item. Just like I can't leave shopping carts in the parking lot unless I park them in the corrals. If there aren't any I am compelled to put them back inside. Now, if I found some money, I would definitely turn it in to someone if able...like if I found it in a public building. I guess if it's on the street in the middle of nowhere it's fare game. ALthough there was this one time that I bought my son a balloon and I forgot to ring it up at the counter and realized it as I was walking out of the store....I didn't go back. I thought I should have, but I didn't. I think that was wrong of me.
Well, as far as not being rung up, I have been there several times. I get home and I call the store and tell them and offer to pay for it over the phone or come in on another day to pay for it (if I can't come back that samw day). Some people have just let me have the item, saying it was their fault, others have accepted my offer and let me use a credit card to pay over the phone. I feel it is my duty to tell them. I feel guilty and like a thief if I haven't at least TOLD them. There have been times, too, when I had one small item left in my cart by the time I get to my car, an item I forgot or didn't see as I was handing them all to the cashier. I will go back in and hand it to the nearest employee and say I forgot to pay for it, and left it in my cart, and I just don't have time to buy it noe, so here...I can get it another time if it's vital...if it were vital I wouldn't have forgotten it, though. As for finding money? That's easy. I'd turn it in. Always. If it's less than $2, I will leave it where it is, and hope the owner comes back for it (I always worry that it might be a hard-earned dollar from a child, who would be DEVESTATED if they lost it), and anything $2 or more, I would turn in to the most likely place that someone would come asking for it.
I'd pick up the money. If it was loose keep it. If in a wallet turn it in. I know I've given away free money over the years to some lucky soul. But maybe you really don't need it. Maybe....
As to the undercharge, I say go back. They usually don't do anything about it anyway and no one can call you a cheat. Not that anyone would.

Uhhhh.....
don't worry about what jon says jessica. he is only kidding.
yeah tongue firmly lodged in cheek
I'd go back(and have many many times)...or at the very least (like Kayla suggested) call the store when I got home.
You'd make the effort to go back if they overcharged you, wouldn't you?
(likely even if you were in a hurry that day too)
well, i know that all of you said that you would go back to the store or at least call..which i never did. honestly, it all depends on where and when i find out something hasn't been rung up. if it's still in the store (like at the line or on the way out) i do tell someone..but if it's at home or in the car..i really don't bother...i just don't see the point. it's not like i stole the thing..and i didn't take it on purpose..so i don't see the point...
about keeping money..i am with you jon...as long as it's not in a wallet or i don't know who's it is..i keep it. i figure if i turn it in to someone..they will just keep it for themselves..so why can't i have it? that's just what i think.
i don't think in either cases i am stealing or even doing anything wrong. but that's just my view. it really does seem that i have a different view than most on the blog world. oh well, what shall we talk about now?
